| Tir na nOg to close 3-30-07
(updated
3-2-06) |
| Tir na nOg's lease of the cozy space
it has occupied for over ten years has expired, and it will be forced to close
its doors at its current location on March 30th, 2007. Originally
scheduled for evection at the end of January, a last minute one month
extension was granted. Since the last attempt at publishing actual
facts of the circumstances, proprietor Robert Elliott has been seen scoping
out suitable locations to relocated the bar to. Rumors abound and
we recently overheard that Mark Clark will attempt to move the bar to Bow
Street with a crane. Other rumors can be found on on Myspace's
Friends of the nOg, a Myspace group of regulars determined to spread
the scandal and rumors long past the nOg's closing date. To
everyone who has shared a pint or a memory in Tir na nOg be sure to come down
for a pint during March 2007, and Thank you.

St Patricks Day 2003
Its still early & in the planning stages, but we'll let you in on the
planning of what is perhaps the biggest event to hit the nÓg since, ...
well since last St. Patrick's Day! This year we are proud to
welcome long-time nÓg patron TOM JORDAN back. Featuring a band,
Tom will be providing the daytime entertainment for our St. Patrick's Day Extravaganza! Then in the evening its
the Johnny
Come Latelies for an action packed evening
of Boston's hottest (acid)-Trad. Despite rumors that the band no longer speaks to each other, it appears
secret rehearsals have been taking place when Robert isn't cooking, Damon
isn't pulling pints, Neal isn't auditioning for American Idol, and when Andrew
isn't...hey, what does he do anyway? Stay Tuned....

Booze Cruise VI - August 18, 2002
| Once again the nOg set sail for an evening of fun on the
high seas. Enlist with the rest of the crew were a few stow-aways
and a few deserters. The Special Guest was revealed as non other than
the very own mayor of Boston (see
pictures). The evening ended up with the traditional exitus of the
ship and most returned to the nÓg for disco complete with smoke
machine and lights! |
World Cup Soccer
| Yes, Tír na nÓg does have a TV. See for yourself when the nÓg broadcasts tape delayed World Cup soccer every day through June! Also, if you're an early bird be sure to stop by the pub on Tuesday, June 11th at 7 a.m., when we'll be broadcasting the Ireland v. Saudia Arabia match live! Full Irish breakfast will be served, so come by and watch the game! |
Booze Cruise V - August 12, 2001
| Despite the gloomy weather, the nOg crew set sail once again, and the result was the same - debauchery on the high seas! Check out the photos and see what you missed (whether you were there or not)! |
Paddy's Day 2001
| Falling as it did on a Saturday, Paddy's Day 2001 delivered as Tír na nÓg regulars and visitors expected. With music by Tom Jordan and the Johnny Come Latelies, and excellent service (as usual) by the entire nÓg staff, 2002 will have a tough time beating this day! |
New Year's Eve 2000
| As always the nóg ended the year with a massive party. While the format was similar to previous years - buffet at 7 p.m., champagne toast at midnight, and music by the Johnny Come Latelies - the dawn of a new millenium seemed to push everyone to a higher level of enjoyment. I'd tell you more, but I'm having trouble putting it all back together! |
Booze Cruise IV
| Another year, another cruise, another shockingly hedonisting party on the water. This year's cruise was particularly poignant, featuring one of Ronan "Fluffy" Quinn's last appearances in the states before returning to Ireland. As usual, not much more can be said beyond "you had to be there!" |
Paddy's Day 2000
| This year's Paddy's Day celebration was like no other, thanks to the giant banner that wrapped the outside of the bar. Those that saw it will not soon forget it, nor will those who temporarily kidnapped it. If you missed the Paddy's Day banner caper, catch up with the scoop in the Tír na nÓse. |
Y2K At Tír na nÓg!
| Without a doubt the biggest and best party of the past 2000 years (at the nÓg, anyway), this New Year's Eve celebration was a great gathering of long-time regulars and happy newcomers. Not much can be said about this party, except "you had to be there!" |
Booze Cruise 1999
Once again, the nÓg faithful set sail for a three hour harbor cruise featuring great friends, great music, and obscene amounts of alcohol. With entertainment provided by the nÓg's own Robert, Damon, Fluffy and Neil, along with the always impressive Easy Marks, everyone had a dancing good time under perfect late-summer skies. If you missed it -- well, there's always next year!
The First Annual Golf Tournament!
Patrons of the nÓg, the Littlest Bar, Biddy Mulligans and other bars endured a brutally hot day on the Rowley Country Club course, yet fun was had by all. Thanks to the friendly lady in the beer cart, the golfers were kept cool, refreshed and buzzed throughout the day. Prizes and food followed at the nÓg, and the day was proclaimed a rousing success!
St. Paddy's Day '99
Once again, the nÓg was hopping on the busiest day of the year. With music by newcomers Uther in the afternoon and the Robert & Fluffy show at night, the nÓg put on another memorable Paddy's Day that left people already waiting for the next one!
New Year's Eve 1998 At the nÓg!
What could be better than bringing in the New Year at the nÓg? Why, nothing, of course! A crowd of regular faces and happy newcomers alike gathered on the last day of 1998 to hear the Vinal Ave. String Band lead us into 1999 in style -- Prince style, of course. Guinness and champagne flowed freely, noisemakers and party hats abounded and all the balloons were popped early in the night -- a sure sign that the New Year had arrived at Tír na nÓg once again.
The Third Annual Thankgiving Extravaganza
Nothing says "Holiday Season" like a fresh pint of Guinness after an enormous Thanksgiving dinner. At least, that's what our revelers seemed to think. Once again the staff of Tír na nÓg threw open their doors for the over-fed masses. With music by Ronan "Fluffy" Quinn and Robert Elliott (but sadly, no Enda Mullen covers of Creedence Clearwater), the Holiday Spirit was giving a good thrashing to kick off the season.
The First Annual Belly Bus Trip
The Tír na nÓg's crack team of professional drinkers were rounded up and taken to the Chieftan Pub in Plainville, MA, for a night of music and drinking in a completely different bar. The experiment was a complete success -- the nÓg faithful thrived in the new environment, the Tír na nÓg All-Star Band put on a top-notch show, and everyone basically had a blast. We hear another trip is in the works -- don't miss it!
Booze Cruise 1998
Continuing the tradition begun the previous year, nÓg staff and patrons set out to sea for another unforgettable four-hour cruise. With music by Robert Elliott & Friends on the top level and a packed bar on the lower level, the crowd proved that you can take the drinkers out of the nÓg, but you can't take the nÓg out of the drinkers.
Gourmet Night
Featuring the unsurpassed culinary team-up of then-chef Kieran and current chef Enda Mullen, this memorable night was truly a sight to behold. The nÓg was redone in bistro-style decor, with curtains in the window, linens on the tables and candlelight throughout. Even the patrons were redone a bit, with most attendees sporting formal attire. Even Mike Barrett was coaxed into a tie. The splended menu created by Kieran and Enda was accented with copious amounts of Old Speckled Hen and wine. It is unkown whether such an event will ever take place again, but if it does, you are highly encouraged to attend. Anyone who was there will tell you, this was a night at the nÓg like no other!

Pub Crawl: Live from Tír na nÓg Another legendary event in nÓg history, the two-night recording of a live CD at the bar was yet another exploration of just how much fun people can have. Featuring talent from the nÓg and elsewhere, the music was unsurpassed. The results of this undertaking are available on the CD "Pub Crawl: Live from Tír na nÓg" from Dancing Druid Music and available at the bar, of course!
Booze Cruise 1997
The nÓg's First Annual Booze Cruise was an instant success. Promising "free pony rides," Robert & Friends packed a boat full of the nÓg's heartiest patrons and set out for Boston Harbor. Many folks met for the first time that night (now having the freedom to move about, unlike the packed weekend nights in the bar), and others rejuvinated their tired bones in the fresh, outdoor air. Few could forget Zozimus's closing jams as the sun set over Boston and the boat returned home. Post-cruise, the sun baked patrons jammed the nÓg for Mike Barrett's rare Sunday set and continued the revelrey well into the night.
